"Ah! There's Nothing Like Staying Home for Real Comfort." Jane Austen

Happy New Year...It's 2009 fellow cookers

In numerous studies and interviews, eating dinner as a family as often as possible was judged to be one of the most important ways to solidify family bonds and promote closeness.

"The family meal...is a custom that can enrich our knowledge of our historic roots by carefully preparing food from our own ethnic tradition, that can enlarge our love of literature by readings of poetry easily adaptable to the beginning or the end of a meal."
Francine Du Plessix Gray

A family meal also offers opportunities to instill manners, not just napkins in the lap and refraining from belching the ABC's, but being patient, courteous, and participating in the volley of conversation.

I guess as we are all in the process of starting New Year's goals - I hope something as simple as family meals can be included on your list. Just thinking about your own memories of

The Kitchen Table, A Recipe Box, A Cookie Cutter can bring up many memories.

Or you can branch out to:

-initiate a coursing dinner with your neighbors. When you only have to make one course you can make it really impressive

-try making a dish from your ancestry country of orgin
