AMERICAN CHILI
From the kitchen of: Jaada
2 lbs. lean ground beef
4 T. butter
2 onions, chopped
4 stalks celery, chopped
3 T. green pepper, finely chopped
Saute beef in butter until lightly brown. Add onion, celery, green peppers and sauté a little together. Add beans and tomatoes. Add salt, chili powder, and pepper. Other seasonings can be added to taste. Simmer until flavors marry together! This is also very good with grated cheese on top and saltines or breadsticks.
RHODES BREAD STICKS
From the kitchen of: Jaada
1 bag Rhodes bread loaves (each loaf makes 1 dozen)
¼ cups melted butter
Parmesan cheese, grated
Garlic Salt
Salad Supreme
Cut loaves in half and then again into six pieces with each half, making 1 dozen. Next, roll each piece in butter covering with shredded Parmesan cheese and garlic salt OR Salad Supreme. Place on a cookie sheet and let rise 4-6 hours. Bake at 400 degrees for 12 minutes.
GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE
From the kitchen of: Jaada
1 German Chocolate Cake Mix
Mix and bake according to directions on box, using two rounds.
GERMAN TOPPING
½ cup margarine or butter
1 cup sugar
3 egg yolks
1 cup canned milk (evaporated)
Cook and stir over low heat: margarine, sugar, egg yolks and canned milk. Cook until thickened. Then stir in vanilla. Beat coconut and pecans into mixture. (You’ll have to experiment with consistencies.)
CHOCOLATE FROSTING
6 T. margarine or butter
1/3 cup cocoa
3 cups powdered sugar
Mix together margarine, cocoa, and powdered sugar. Next add the milk and vanilla and beat until smooth and creamy!
Put the cake together by layering. Start by spreading half of the German topping on one round. Top with the second round, and spread the remaining German topping across the top. Finish by frosting just the sides with the chocolate frosting. This is one of my family’s birthday favorites!
